1932 sparked an opportunity for a 19-year-old living on the West coast of Canada – running rum. Brereton traveled between Vancouver and Mexico by sea, transfer-smuggling Canadian liquor down the Pacific coast known as “rum row.” Brereton was The Urbanite Gardener’s grandfather.
A BOOTLEG HERITAGE
The...
winemaker
With an Italian heritage rooted in grape growing, our story starts with The Winemaker who wanted a winter project and started looking into the artisanal micro distillation of grapes.
ANTHROPOLOGIST
The eldest of the Carone daughters, The Anthropologist has traveled throughout North America, the Caribbean and Asia. She brings an insight into a world full of flavours to the distillery’s products.
DIETICIAN
A health and wellness advocate, Carone’s middle daughter, has been driven by her ongoing studies in food science, to work towards global food sourcing and safety. The Dietician helped develop our plan to work closely with local farmers to create a sustainable, circular economy and reduce food waste.
HURRICANE
The youngest of the Carone daughters, with energy abound the Hurricane puts the spirit into our spirits. She is credited with the design inspiration of our spirit labels.
URBANITE GARDENER
A city girl gone country, the Urbanite Gardener coined the term “savage gardening” whereby one enjoys the solace of gardening with minimal, if any, weeding. She focuses on researching vintage family recipes and growing and creating proprietary botanical blends.
